Why is this timely? Because developers are rebelling against opaque cloud bills. The distance between “merge PR” and “surprise invoice” is intolerable. If performance can have budgets and tests, cost should too. The future is cost observability that is grounded in code: the same place we check for latency regressions and error rates.
CodeOps is the simple idea that the software lifecycle—from local dev to production—should surface what this change will cost, per unit of value (per request, per job, per tenant). Not ballpark numbers weeks later, but signals you can act on before merge.
What We’ll Build: An End-to-End Cost Signal
The shape of a CodeOps system:

Container Economics: Requests, Limits, and Waste
Kubernetes turns compute into a market: you request CPU/memory; the scheduler packs pods onto nodes; you pay for node hours. Code-level estimates need to match that world.
